A Sincere SayaKadawt Pwe in Yangon 2012

A Sincere Sayakadwat Pwe

(Paying Respects Ceremony to the Teachers)

(Dr Maung Maung Nyo)

Show all

One day on the 21st of January 2012

Students of 1986 -1996 Batch hold a SyaKadawt Pwe

At the Titanic Traders Hotel Ballroom

With pictures of the IM 1 on the wall in full bloom

All in bright color with artistic and futuristic touch

Provoking nostalgia in the old students’ hearts

All missing the good old days of their alma mater

That made them doctors after ten years later.

Lovely ladies and Longyi-ed lads carry large bags

For the teachers to be paid respects

They had labored it since the last year or so

Never complaining of tiredness or other woes

Knowing their teachers had made sacrifices too

Teaching off and on or double the same course through

As classes were suspended often from 1988 onwards

Some had to linger and labor abroad as upstarts

Forgetting they are Burmese medical students as such

Until teachers particularly I called them back to restart

I even had to sweep the lecture rooms for the MRTV

For them to know they must come back as doctors to be!

Today their faces smile and shine

Their behavior best and benign

All teachers proud of their success

Though some doing non-medical business

Though what they do is a Mingala action

It’s Patiyupadesawathawsa, a suitable profession

Many old teachers come to the occasion

Every one in joyous celebration

Maung Maung Sein in wheel chair

Myat Myat Ohn Khin and Shwe Shwe so fair

Nan Ommar is all white surrounded by old maids

Me also so happy with old male mates

Drs Ye Myint, Than Aung, Khin Maung Aye two

One is chest and another is heart surgeon too

Dr Win Cho cannot remember me

He is too old to know his senior me!

I praise them for their Kowtowing and steadfastness

To become doctors in double the time of normal process

Even as a premedical student I said the course tedious

So, I say to them, “Marvelous, Marvelous!”

It’s a great glorious occasion

All teachers old and not so old in elation

Students of course are in jubilation

We wish them to celebrate it often in this tradition.
