Very Valiant and Visionary

Dr Maung Maung Nyo

My grandmother told me of Kalidasa

Who knew everything of the Lokisabawa

But he was then accepted for his truth

Only by a woman of ill repute

(Kalidasa of India)

Who would kill him ultimately

After answering her riddle intimately

That the nightly lotus dance was due to bee

She was going to be awarded as Her Majesty;

(Works of Kalidasa Cover)

So was saintly but sour mouthed Socrates

Who knew his philosophy was apoplexy

For the governing and powerful oligarchy

As they were being challenged for their autocracy

(Socrates Taking the Poison)

He valiantly sipped the poison offered to him

He would not relinquish his truths as sin;

Shining like him was Bogyoke Aung San

He knew his final day would come

Sooner than expected as Bren guns

Sten guns were issued in large sums

(General Aung San with Clement Atlee fro Burma's Independence)

British Governor or officers not taking action

To arrest those responsible for questioning

He made sure independence was to be won

He then succumbed stolidly to their firing gun;

(Statue of Martyr General Aung San in Rangoon)

I salute to all those visionary and valiant ones

We may not have their courage and charm

Yet we should emulate and encourage each other

Let there be light at the end of tunnel in Burma!
