Good Bye, Burmese Friends Going Home!

Dr Maung Maung Nyo

We have a dinner this 14th Saturday

To say farewell to friends from Mandalay

They are going home after three years’ stay

They have been in Kuching working for a better pay.

Some of them we knew in Burma

Others we knew only in Malaysia

But we have been like brothers now

Burmans become bosom friends out bound.

UNIMAS had only one Burman teacher

When it started medical programme here

Now many Burmese have come and gone

My wife and I are still going strong.

Kyi Kyi Thein, Nyunt Lwin)

Many Burmese doctors are working in Malaysia

Almost every medical college has a Burmese teacher

Most experienced and talented ones work here

It’s the Burma’s loss and Malaysia’s gain so clear.

Maung Maung Ohn is a physician

He specializes in internal medicine

He has a charming wife with a grin

They share their food without sting.

(L to R: Drs Sein Win, Kyi Kyi Thein, Nyunt Lwin)

Dr Nyunt Lwin is an anaesthetist

He saves patients in critical unit

But he is so cool and courteous

His better half makes him smart.

(L to R: Daw Phyu Phyu or Mrs Sein Win, Drs: Lucy Kyaw Mya,

Htwe Htwe Sein, Tin Moe Nwe, Sabai Soe Maung, Hla Hla Myint)

Dr Sein Win is a general surgeon

With a white heart and a swarthy skin

People laugh and smile when meet him

He cracks jokes and satires at his whim.

Now that they are leaving

We feel like as needing

Something to fill our lives

Fresh friends shall fill the voids.

(Dr Aye Aye Aung Delivering a Lively Speech)

“Good Bye! Fond friends from Burma

We all have lived and worked happily here

Convey our best wishes to our friends in Burma

We all shall meet again after our tenure in Malaysia."
