Wanderings in Wonder Land
(Dr Maung Maung Nyo)

Tankul Abdul Rahman was the Malaysian prince
He fought for independence from the British
But, he was not anti-British, just anti-colonialist
He was like Nehru, Gandhi and Sri Lankese.
We then discussed about Burma
Where poverty and natural disasters dare
Democracy is still unheard of and rare
People are still disunited in despair.
I still remember talking with the vice chancellor
He was a young smart intelligent enquirer
He was sorry for the plight of the Burmese people
He blamed it to the twisted minds of the junta that rule.
He advocated struggle for democracy
He encouraged nonviolent methodology
He said democracy is for all the people
Not for a few or a leftist or rightist view.
I agreed with his proposition
We must spread democracy education
To all segments of the population or factions
We must educate, propagate and agitate in succession.
A democrat must not be confined to his country
(This democrat starts with small d and means all believers in democracy)
He must be well versed with all the happenings
In his country as well as in other countries
He must study, deconstruct and discuss accordingly.
If a great power is arrogant he must fight
If a party is unfair he must point out there
If a person is biased he must correct it right
No country, no party, no doctrine is out of criticism ever.
Some people confused nationalism and patriotism
They think love of country is patriotism
It’s more than that in definition
One must serve and sacrifice to be a patriot for conclusion.
Service does not mean serving the government
It means to serve the people in any segment
Politics is also a service to the people
ASSK is doing it with her sacrifices full.
This stand is not personal
It’s neither sentimental nor sensual
Every body has the right to partake in democracy
Let the people decide for the country or humanity.
This thinking makes my life luxury
As I have time to think about it plenty
What is this life if full of care
Nothing to stand and stare!
Poetry is highest form of literature
It makes the people agitated and wonder
Where does this feeling come from?
It’s in the human genome aplomb!
A poet writes for his belief or feeling
He does not write for fame or remuneration
He always searches for truth
He is not to be duped.
I like the poets
I bow my head
All poets are patriots
Milton, Shakespeare, Byron, Elliott
Hmaing, Zawgyi, Minthuwun, Dagon Taryar a lot
And the budding poets who trot I offer my nod.

One day, Dean gave us a luncheon
It was a dinner-marathon
Lasting from noon to 3 PM on
Eight of us eating and speaking upon.
It included the Dean and two Deputy Deans
Professor Pratibha’s couple and Prof. Viji
Our selves in attendance for eight seating
It’s a special luncheon at Club of Sarawak Country.
We talked about the origins of South East Asians
They had come from West of the Yellow River basin
But, they have their culture and religion from Indians
Yet, they’re free from India and China in doctrine.
Chinese make five to fifteen percent of population
In each country of SEA region
But they hold more clout than they number
Maybe it is due to their economic power.
Indians are muter in the region
Except in Malaysia with number and Hinduism
It’s now sizzling with discontent and disillusion
Other SEA nations have to watch with consternation.
We then talked about the national heroes
I started the subject with General Aung San
Every body knew he was father of the Lady one
Professor Pratibha followed with Subash Chandra Bose.
