My Current Hero Aung Sans
Dr Maung Maung Nyo
It’s difficult after Anawrahta and Alaungpaya
To select the most fitting hero in my treasure
As such gallant warriors like Minye-kyaw-zwa
Tabinshwehti, Bayinnaung, Mingyiyannaung Bandoola
Not forgetting U Ottama, U Wisara and Saya-San etc
True, we cannot dismiss that intrepid Aung San there
He gave his life on the eve of becoming independent
I therefore choose Aung San and daughter for the present.
(Two persons one hero: General Aung San and ASSK)
Is it not strange two persons are chosen for one grace?
But, in reality, they made just one for Burma to face
He began the struggle for independence in the first place
She continues his to conclude it successfully in second phase .

(General Aung San, Daw Khin Kyi with ASSK)
Every Burmese knows or should know about General Aung San
He was a student activist, resistance leader, politician all in one,
He was the Deputy to Executive Council of Governor Rance
Virtually, premier over-seeing Burma’s day to day governance,
He was also planning to regain independence once and for all
He was an astute politician, dedicated democrat and patriot to fall.

(General Aung San of BIA and Daw Khin Kyi)
He fought for total independence before he was assassinated
He had done every thing in place for AFPFL to be nominated
The only hitch was insurrection that flared up after independence
Communists, KNDO and PVO resorted to arm for their grievances
Political turmoil and military turbulence put the country in decadence
Burmese people really cannot yet enjoy the fruits of independence
It's a time of turmoil for them to look for real liberty in suspense
ASSK spoke the need for people to struggle for second independence!
(ASSK as Leader of the NLD)
Daw Aung San Suu Kyi is a rare lady among the gents
She is neither a queen nor a head of state in pretence
She is neither a queen nor a head of state in pretence
But, her moral courage and sacrifice overwhelmed others
She is sacrificing her life and liberty for Burma;
She stayed in Burma when allowed to leave for her dying husband
Knowing that the SPDC was throwing a privilege as a trap garland
To catch her off hand that would ban her for ever in England
She must have cried considerably to blame her unlucky trend.

(ASSK Braving the SLORC's Gun)
Yet, she was resolute to remain in Burma to lead her people
Through difficult times for liberty, equality and democratic rule;
Think of her challenging the pointed gun in her Irrawaddy Tour
Think of her beaten and nearly murdered at Depayin Massacre
Think of her incarcerated alone for more than seventeen years
Cut of from friends, family, amenities of life and necessities
Who could think it possible for a person to face such calamities?
(ASSK with Her Two Sons, Separated from Their Mother)
Yet, she endured it all with tolerance and equanimity
Not for her wealth, not for her popularity or presidency
It was and still is for the benefit of Burmese people’s concerns
She led an example of personal sacrifice not seeing her sons
Who else has endured such hardships and inhuman measures?
Except Nelson Mandela of South Africa and Prisoners Of War.
(ASSK as the "Lady" in Book Cover)
Yes, we can take pride for her, in our era
She was rightfully awarded the Nobel Prize bonanza
In recognition of her sacrifice and selfless endeavors
Who would have thought it possible then ever?
A mere woman, still young, struggling, awarded early
Some would say maliciously about it out of jealousy
I still remember the SLORC or SPDC slinging mud
That she was awarded by the CIA and Western thugs
By bribing Nobel Prize Committee a million dollars plus
To denigrate the Burmese military government to embarrass
They were not ashamed to call and explain that to us
Other accolades followed like Nehru and Sakharov Prizes fast
Doctorates and Congressional Medal of Honor from America etc!
(ASSK with Her Adoring Crowd, Arakan State)
The NLD and Burmese people look upon her as their saviour
Her mere presence and occasional uttering make them livelier
They are down, depressed, and dispirited for a long time so far
Remember, Rome is not built in a day and we’re still nowhere
Nelson Mandela spent about thirty years in prison in South Africa
The Chinese revolution took 27 years, Burma’s independence longer!
(ASSK and UN Representative Mr Gambari)
She has led us since she was back in Burma in August 1988
When the country was in a desperate demoralized state
It was when we’re going to make or break the country’s fate
People were in a crucible, capricious, crying and afraid
She made them composed, courageous and free from fear
She led them to reason, relive and realign for democracy endeavour.
(ASSK and Senior General Than Shwe, Chairman of SPDC)
She made the NLD win General Election for people’s sake
Only that SLORC broke promise to negate its results to fade
It’s the country’s and people’s fate to be in limbo still to date
Certainly, a day will come as the sun rises from the east as its fate.

(The Flag of NLD that ASSK leads)
So, I choose Aung San and Suu Kyi to be my current hero
Away from among the gallant and great gentile galore
Although she has not yet accomplished her mission so
Yet, every thing points for the people to march to their goal.

(ASSK in Burmese New Year signalling to
Usher in a New Burma)
Don’t be disappointed as she is in solitary confinement
When the time comes people may form a government
For the people, by the people, of the people on consent!
Well, I have no doubt about that in my assessment;
Her intent is clear, her goal is near
She is all for the people of Burma;
Never once, I doubt her, she is ours
We’ll reach there, rest assured!
